For us web designers it is very important that you check your web creations in as many different browsers as you can get your hands on. Before that, you have to make sure it’s working in at least one browser, and the most popular at the moment is Firefox. I’ve recently found a couple of useful add-ons for Firefox that aid you during web design.
Shopping list:
First of all, get the most recent version of Firefox, so that you know you are up to date with all the latest niff-naffs. Next, there is the Firebug, which, as the name suggests, is used nicely for de-bugging.
“Firebug integrates with Firefox to put a wealth of web development tools at your fingertips while you browse. You can edit, debug, and monitor CSS, HTML, and JavaScript live in any web page.”
Then you can also install the web-developer add-on to give you a menu and a toolbar with various web developer tools. Together, these tools allow you to find the little mistakes that you made, and should give you some idea as to why they are messing up everything that they do.
Have fun, and good luck

Site Inspector!
have you tried Site Inspector?
It's a cross-browser browser (if that makes sense!) ... using a couple of the most popular rendering engines so that you can switch between IE view and Firefox view to check out the differences. It works better than toggling between two browsers.

browsers
firefox might be popular, but it's far from being the widest spreaded browser.
ie 6+7 still comes to more than 50%, whereas firefox makes about 37%, rest are misc of other browsers.

so make sure you consider ie 6+7 as well. if you want to run multiple ie versions for debugging (it's not possible to install different ie versions on your computer), "multiple_ie" is a nice tool to look at:

I still prefer IE
I still prefer using internet explorer. Actually, I use it when I make web pages, and then way near the end I have a look at the pages in FireFox and make a few adjustments. One thing in IE 7 is the "clear text" it does on HTML... makes everything just look so much better!
