Web Design in Chiang Mai

When I first started dabbling in web design to make some quick cash on the side, I wasn't really intending for it to be anything more than that; a quick job. My initial thoughts were that the farang community is so small here in Chiang Mai that there couldn't possibly be that great of a demand for English web design anyway.

To my surprise, only a few days after I began my first project, I already had more project requests than I could possibly handle! As it turns out, there is a HUGE demand in Chiang Mai for foreign (western) web designers. It seems like everybody knows someone who is looking to create a website for their business, but doesn't have anyone to make it for them.

If you are an average or above-average web designer, you can easily find side projects here in Chiang Mai. Just casually mention your skills to friends over dinner and you are virtually guaranteed a potential job or two to pop up over the next week!

Very True

Same thing with me. The thing is, after you do your first project (and assuming you do it well enough), that customer will almost always find new customers for you. One project I just finished, the guy told me he can probably guarantee me high paying oversees customers- 2 or more per month!

Because of what I mentioned above, about old customers finding you new ones for you, I'm always a bit hesitant about turning customers down. You don't know until after whether or not it will lead to more profitable jobs.

Another hint... Actually I wanted to post this on Ken's article about web hosting; if you regularly do web pages for people, many of them will also need hosting and a domain name. I've got a hosting service with practically infinite space... and only 10 dollars per year to create a new domain. So I can easily host my customers' websites, as an extra to the web design service.
